At BlackOak, we are bold when it comes to design, so we were excited when a Multi-National Law Firm came to us to produce their summer social. Jonathan Zani, technical producer for this event, shares how we completely transformed the client’s venue on a short timeline.
Q&A with Jonathan Zani, Producer
THIS SOUNDS LIKE A FUN PROJECT! TELL US ABOUT THE VENUE FOR THIS EVENT?
The venue was RPM on the Water which we completely transformed – something we usually don’t do.
WHO WAS THE CLIENT?
The client was a multi-national law firm based in Chicago and we worked directly with their internal planner.
WHAT WERE THE INITIAL CHALLENGES BROUGHT BY THE CLIENT?
One of the challenges brought to us was the expedited turnaround time. We planned and executed this event in a week and a half.
WOW, THAT IS A VERY TIGHT TURNAROUND. HOW DID WE SUPPORT THE CLIENT DURING THIS PROCESS?
We treated the client as our top priority so that we could align on the design and direction to execute the following week.
TELL US WHAT THE CLIENT HOPED TO ACHIEVE?
One of the client’s hopes was that this would be a polished and luxe event for their high stakeholders in the company.
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE DESIGN ELEMENTS THAT WE BROUGHT IN TO DELIVER A LUXURIOUS EVENT EXPERIENCE?
To provide that wow factor, we brought in recessed LED walls, lighting, and custom content commissioned by an artist displayed on the walls. KEHOE DESIGNS created lush, full florals and carpeted the entire room in a rich blue tone with gold accents. Between the two, the space was completely transformed.
THAT SOUNDS LIKE AN INCREDIBLE VISUAL. WALK US THROUGH THE GUEST EXPERIENCE.
If I were going to take you on the guest journey, I’d start at the coat check, where the guests were immediately met with bright lighting and a gobo representing Kirkland and Ellis. After that, the guests experienced a sort of, wow moment. We created LED tubes that lined the hallway and were activated to have sort of a ripple effect as guests entered the space. Moving into the space, they were met with a completely transformed room. It didn’t look like anything that RPM on the water had ever done before.
HOW DID THE CLIENT FEEL ABOUT THE EVENT?
The client was thrilled with the event because everyone was thrilled at the event. We didn’t allow the restrictions of the venue to keep us from achieving the client’s vision, which made for a successful partnership.
