THE PROJECT
As part of the Democratic National Convention held in Chicago from August 19th to 22nd, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) hosted a three-day International Leadership Forum at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. The forum, designed to advance NDI’s mission of promoting democracy through observation, reflection, and dialogue, provided foreign dignitaries with a unique opportunity to engage with and experience the American political system during the DNC.
When selecting a partner for the event, NDI conducted a rigorous interview process with multiple AV companies. BlackOak stood out for both our technical expertise and our human-centered approach, which resonated with NDI’s culture and values. From the outset, there was a strong synergy between our collaborative mindset and NDI’s desire for a partner who would genuinely care about the success of the event and its broader mission.
NDI was looking for more than a vendor; they wanted a true partner who shared their vision and was committed to helping them achieve their goals. BlackOak’s people-first philosophy nurtured a close, trusting relationship with NDI, ensuring that we were fully aligned in delivering a high-impact, meaningful event. This deep connection allowed us to go beyond technical execution and truly support NDI’s mission through thoughtful collaboration and dedicated service.
To ensure that the forum’s focus on democracy and American politics remained at the forefront, NDI entrusted BlackOak Technical Productions with delivering seamless audiovisual (AV) support. Our team was responsible for creating a stage design that not only enhanced NDI’s branding but also provided a visually striking platform for sponsor showcases and session content. Through an innovative LED wall design, we effectively displayed the NDI logo, sponsor loops, and presenter information with clarity and impact, elevating the overall aesthetic and professionalism of the event.
BlackOak’s attention to detail and dedication to flawless execution were critical in accommodating last-minute changes to the run of show, including presenter updates and content adjustments. By expertly coordinating with local Chicago unions for labor setup and execution, we helped NDI meet its production goals while adhering to budget expectations. Our seamless technical delivery allowed the forum’s distinguished guests to remain fully immersed in the content and discussions, ultimately supporting NDI’s goal of promoting democracy on a global scale.
